Lime near the Church (Smolenice)

Since situated in the centre of municipality, at the beginning of traditional tourist route to Smolenice Castle and Záruby Hill, Tilia cordata cannot be overlooked in Smolenice. It grows near the church within a rather small grass area together with several old limes. However, it is evidently the biggest one of them, and contrary to the neighbouring trees, there is a plate labelling officially protected tree placed before it. It was declared a protected tree in 2000 due to cultural and historical, landscape, and ecological reasons. The trunk circumference amounts to 653 cm. The lime with a height of 23 m is 300 years old.
