Tours of the wineries under the Little Carpathians should include the village of Horné Orešany, which lies at the foot of a mountain. You will notice the rows of grape vines and the local church tower already from the distance. The cellar of Dious Winery is exactly in the middle of the village and is an example of the connection of modern and traditional wine making. That is how Víno Dious can be characterised. A church, which was a part of an extensive cellar system, was standing at the place of the present winery already in the 12th century. Later in the 17th century, the family of Count Pálffy, which was also active in trading wine and related products like vinegar or grape seed oil, built their cellars at its place. A part of thick walls, which are a part of the present cellar, probably remembers as early as the 12th century. Excluding this historical part, we could say that Víno Dious was built from scratch. Its modern hall, where wine is processed, is equipped with the latest as well as most economic technology like peristaltic pumps or inert gas used for cider clearing, so called flotation. Wines of Dious Winery excel at purity, significant and unmistakable variety aromaticity with prevailing fruit aromas. Company owners try to cultivate their own vineyards, however until they are self-sufficient in grape cultivation, they buy grapes from one of the warmest vineyard areas in Southern Slovakia. Orešany red wine was well-known in the past, particularly the wines of Blue Portugal grape variety. It is one of grape varieties on which Víno Dious orientates and which comes from their own vineyards. Besides wines of this grape variety, you can also try other red wines of Blue Frankovka variety as well as of omnipresent Cabernet Sauvignon variety. The selection is completed by white varieties, providing captivating wines: Pinot Blanc, Welsch Riesling, Rhine Riesling, Sauvignon and Green Veltliner. You should not miss tasting of wines of original Slovak varieties of Devín and Nória. Víno Dious company has achieved several successes during its short existence. Besides golden medals at the most significant Slovak competitions, their wines have ranked among TOP 100 Slovak wines at the National Wine Collection.
