Traditional Trnava Fair

Tradičný trnavský jarmok (Traditional Trnava Fair) is one of the most favourite and well- known events in Trnava. It is proved also by the historical name of the town, “Nagyszombat (Veľká Sobota/Big Saturday), which it earned thanks to unique Saturday markets famous within the surrounding area. Nowadays the fair take s place in the central town zone, usually during the second week of September, from Thursday to Sunday. Commercial vendors and craftsmen offer their goods, attractions and carousels are enjoyed mainly by younger visitors; the refreshment centres serve traditional fair specialties – cigánska pečienka (grilled meat in a bread roll served with mustard and grilled onion), burčiak (Federweisser/Young wine)  or roasted goose with “lokše” (traditional potato pancakes). Special attention is paid to the cultural programme, which usually takes place at two different locations. Besides concerts in the Trinity square, there is also a contemporary festival - Medieval times at the town walls, which is located in the Anton Bernolák’s Park and consists of historical camps with entire military base and kitchen equipage.
