If you are a history lover you should not miss one of the most important buildings of the region. West-Slovakian Museum in Trnava is one of the largest and most beautiful museums in Slovakia. The main building occupies the premises of Poor Clarist monastery from the 13th century, which is situated near the city walls. In the past, it was used as a military hospital, later as a warehouse and since 1954 it has been the seat of West-Slovakian Museum. The museum continues more than a hundred-year long museum tradition in Trnava. It offers eleven beautiful exhibitions presenting life in the town and surrounding region from its prehistory to the present and it invites you for a walk through history.A part of the West-Slovakian Museum is also the Museum of Book Culture situated in Oláh Seminary. There one can find an exhibition focused on the history of printing press in Slovakia and particularly in Trnava. West-Slovakian Museum also administers the House of Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský, which focuses on the figure of the famous composer and also the Library for Scholarly Public situated in Šándor House.
