Museum of Book Culture – Oláh Seminary, Western Slovakia Museum
Touring West-Slovakian Museum in Trnava.
In 1561, the Archbishop of Esztergom Mikuláš Oláh ordered the construction of a seminary and a college. However, the unfinished building caught fire five years later. It was restored, but it was no longer used as a seminary. Until 1919, it served as an asylum for retired priests and later it became a canonry library. During the 1970s it was restored again and the West-Slovakian Museum established the Museum of Book Culture there. One of the exhibitions focuses on book culture and the history of Slovak printing press. Historical prints from the 16th to the 20th centuries form a major part of the exhibits. Another part of the museum offers exhibits from the life and artistic career of a well-known sculptor and medal maker William Schiffer, a native of Zvončín.
