Ludwig van Beethoven and Dolná Krupá

The classical manor house in Dolná Krupá became famous in the early 19th century for alleged visits by one of the greatest composers in the history, Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827). The manor house belonging to the Brunswick family was allegedly visited by the composer between 1800 and 1806. He also dedicated several songs to the family and through them he met with the love of his life. During his stay in the manor house, he probably composed the famous Moonlight Sonata. On the cover of this famous song is the dedication to Giuletta Giucciardi, a relative of the Brunswick family and Beethoven apparently fell in love with her. One story says that to the manor house in Dolna Krupa was also addressed his “letter for the immortal lover”, but he did not mention her name on its pages. Whether this was really true remains a mystery to this day, but the name of the famous composer is forever bound to Dolná Krupá. The Beethoven’s rococo pavilion with music exhibit stands next to the castle as the commemoration.
