Giant Sequoia in the Park (Dolná Krupá)

There are several foreign as well as domestic trees of substantial sizes in the picturesque English park with plenty of beautiful trees in Dolná Krupá. The park at the back of classical manor house includes also a giant exemplar of Sequoiadendron giganteum, growing in the upper section of park near the fencing. Owing to scientific and aesthetic reasons, this sequoia was declared a protected tree in 2000. It is the second tallest exemplar of its kind in Trnava region. The very well-grown tree has a regular cone-like treetop and massive trunk. Listed also to the survey Tree of 2008, this protected sequoia is called by local inhabitants "sequoia" or "carrot". The tree had probably been planted by the owner of manor house and lands, Rudolf Chotek, a nature lover and fruit grower as well. The trunk circumference amounts to 503 cm. It is 48 m tall and its age is estimated to 120 years.
