Invitation to a Voyage Through Centuries in Ships of Trnava´ s Churches
When the sun rests on the walls of historical burgher´s houses, decorative architectonic façade details busk in the sunlight and the pavement emits out heat, the open doors of the Trnava sacral monuments are a welcome invitation to relaxation in the pleasant shade and spiritual atmosphere of places in which visitors have found refuge and life harmony for centuries. You can admire the beauty of interiors in the mysterious St. Nicholas Basilica, which has been a vivid heart of the town since the end of the 14th century, or in one of the most beautiful early Baroque edifice in Europe – St. John the Baptist Cathedral with its magnificent altar at which also Pope John Paul II contemplated. You are invited to meet the dynamic Baroque style and fourteen altars of the Franciscan Church of St. James whose walls remember also the middle-aged Trnava. In the Jesuit Church of the Holy Trinity from the 18th century, you will see the altar picture by Austrian painter F. A. Maulbertsch, while in the Ursuline Nuns´ Church of St. Anne, you will admire a classicist altar with a picture by Jozef Zanussi depicting St. Anne teaching Virgin Mary.
